Who can use the various landfill convenience transfer stations?
If you live in Shenandoah County, or any of the surrounding counties, you have almost certainly passed one of the several drop-off locations for trash. Whether you call it a satellite facility, transfer station, or convenience site, they are all provided by your County to throw your household trash away.
The short answer to the question is that only citizens of the county should use the convenience sites for personal household garbage.
What is permitted to be thrown away at the convenience sites?
You should only throw away household bagged trash or trash in cans at the convenience sites. You can also recycle things like glass, paper, and cardboard at the convenience sites using the provided recycling containers.
What cannot be thrown away at the convenience sites?
The convenience sites should not be used to dispose of large objects such as appliances, furniture or mattresses. You cannot throw away tires or TV’s either at the convenience sites. These items must be disposed of at the landfill (in Edinburg, VA for Shenandoah County).
Who should NOT use the convenience sites?
If you are a business, or generating trash as a business, you should not use the convenience sites.
When are the convenience sites open in Shenandoah County?
Site gates are open Monday – Saturday 7am until 7pm (except Thursdays); Sunday 1pm until 5pm. Convenience site gates are closed on Thursdays. When the gates are closed, walk in access is permitted.
